Yesterday evening we had the pleasure of receiving many visitors at our soiree. All our port and sherry has been consumed, and the fancies were quite popular too. There are still some left though! So please come and visit us in our laboratory at 22 City Arcade (between Silver Glade and Ikea). You can have your inner thoughts revealed through our Mind Reading machine. We are open from 11am till 4 pm.

Post from Rural Dean

cnv00031Dear Miss Notbut and Miss Gotleg,

I had the good fortune to briefly view your exhibition in the Medieval Crypt, and I thank you for your kind invitation to examine the experiments in greater detail.

There are however, one or two details upon which I am slightly confused.
Namely the exact nature of your experiments, the materials you start with, and the character of the results.
Travellers on the great oceans have told of beautiful mermaids, who swim underwater, others insist that these are merely “sea cows” also curiously called “dugongs”, and even in Europe there are said to be Lorelei who lure sailors to their deaths.
In my mind it raises the possibility that one of your creatures may in fact be such a mermaid.

An alchemist named Nicholas Flamel is reputed to have found the fabled Philosopher’s Stone, and it is now believed this has come into the possession of a young man named named Harry Potter. This Stone is said to turn Base Metal into Gold, and also to be the secret of eternal life. There is also speculation that a stone with exactly the opposite properties has been discovered in far off lands.

I cannot help but think that this partly explains the fact that your “Dodo” seems to cause other creatures to faint.

In the crypt there seems to be an eyeball attached to the wall. I have heard tell that an “all seeing eye” was discovered upon one of the pyramids in Egypt , and that this will appear on the dollar bill of the United States .

Another subject of tittle-tattle in the salons concerns the so called “Modern Prometheus”.
As you are no doubt aware in the ancient Greek legends, Prometheus stole fire from the gods and brought it down to man, and many see this as being a parable for giving the spark of life to living things. In her notorious “novel” a Miss Mary Shelley (nee Wollstonecraft) has told the most distressing tale of one scientist (a Doctor Victor Frankenstein) who attempted to bring inanimate flesh to life using a form of lightning (which I believe is the basis for this new-fangled electricity).

I therefore ask myself whether you are experimenting with giving life to your specimens.

We have all heard of Mister Charles Darwin and Msieu Jean-Baptiste Lamarck, who postulate that living things may “evolve” over time into different forms, and each of these two amateur naturalists has their own explanation how this state of affairs comes about.

I look forward to hearing more about your results, and hope that they may soon be as widely known and recognized as the efforts of these “Men of Science”.

Yours, Rural Dean Ipzper

New Experiments

cnv00023Tallulah & Liza have been frightfully busy in their laboratory in the City Arcade. Liza, in the best of scientific traditions, has been experimenting on herself (notably her right leg) and Tallaluh is planning on doing a similar experiment on her ears!

In the Undercroft

We have had the most exciting time in the Undercroft of the Herbert Gallery! Ghosts galore, as the dear visitor can see, we think it was monks trying to get in - or get out - that wall that was bulging in a most definite manor.
Our creatures behaved examplary, and our guests were happy, if not slightly apprehensive we would keep them underground. Of course, we would never do so!
We are now looking forward to our continuous work in our laboratory in the City Arcade, where we will conduct some experiments on humans (only voluntary, do we really need to mention that?), involving Mind Reading.
We will keep you posted!

To our great delight, Tallulah and I will have the opportunity to conduct an expedition to the Medieval Crypt of the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum in our lovely city of Coventry. We will take our fully grown creatures from our laboratory in the City Arcade to the dark and ghostly space underneath the Herbert, to see how they will react to the vibrations we have already established there. This will happen, dear reader, on the 16, 17 and 18th October.
You are most welcome for a private tour on Friday 16 Oct, 4 - 5.30 pm, or join us for a tour performance on every hour 17 Oct, 11 am - 4 pm; 18 Oct, 12 - 4 pm, in the Herbert, Jordan Well, CV1 5QP

Miss Liza Notbut & Miss Tallulah Gotleg

So exciting! We had to stand absolutely still for the longest time, that is why we look a bit uncomfortable. Nevertheless, we were really pleased with the result as it was presented and decided to use the Photograph as our shop sign.
In the mean time, we are going full steam ahead towards opening our shop-cum-laboratory to the public. Our ‘presentation’ as it were, will take place the end of October. Of course, we will have to see if by then our experiments have matured enough. Dea volente, all will go according to plan and we will be able to offer guided tours. Please be patient, dear customers!
